Striped Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla haddoni / Striped Carpet Anemone)
The Striped Carpet Anemone is a spectacular marine invertebrate, admired for its broad oral disc, short sticky tentacles, and striking striped colouration. A true centrepiece for large reef aquariums, it can form a natural symbiotic relationship with several species of clownfish while providing an impressive display.
Compatibility:
Generally peaceful, but highly predatory. Compatible with clownfish and most reef inhabitants, although slow-moving or small fish that stray onto its sticky tentacles may be captured. Allow plenty of space between the anemone and corals to prevent stinging.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Safe with corals when given adequate room, but it can move around the aquarium and its powerful sting may damage nearby corals. Careful placement is essential.
Diet:
Carnivore – benefits from regular feedings of mysis shrimp, chopped prawn, mussel, squid, lancefish, and other meaty marine foods. While much of its energy comes from symbiotic zooxanthellae algae, occasional feeding supports long-term health and growth.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L

High Lighting
Care Level:
Advanced – requires a mature reef aquarium with excellent water quality, stable parameters, strong lighting, and moderate water flow. Not suitable for newly established aquariums.
Top Tip:
Provide a deep sandy area where the anemone can bury its foot securely. Always use protective covers on powerheads, as wandering anemones can be seriously injured if drawn into pumps.
