A vibrant and eye-catching marine species, the Candy Hogfish is renowned for its striking red, orange, and white coloration and active swimming behaviour. Its playful nature and bold colours make it a standout addition to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with peaceful to moderately robust species such as wrasses, gobies, clownfish, and tangs. Can be territorial with other wrasses or similar-shaped fish.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Generally harmless to corals and invertebrates, but may occasionally disturb small invertebrates in the substrate.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept high-quality marine pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily for optimal health and vibrant coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 150L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and sufficient hiding places among live rock.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of rockwork and open swimming areas. Regular feeding of small meaty foods enhances coloration and encourages natural behaviour.
