Description
Canary Blenny (Meiacanthus oualanensis / Canary Fang Blenny)
A vibrant and active marine species, the Canary Blenny is loved for its bright yellow coloration, sleek body shape, and energetic personality. This peaceful fang blenny adds constant movement and bold colour to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Mixes well with clownfish, gobies, wrasses, tangs, and other community fish. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may harass smaller species. Can usually be kept with other peaceful blennies in larger aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates, making it ideal for reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore/Omnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept quality marine pellets and flakes. Feed 1–2 times daily for optimal health and colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. Benefits from stable water conditions and plenty of rockwork for shelter.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock with crevices for hiding and resting. Despite their peaceful nature, fang blennies possess mild venomous defensive bites, helping deter predators without posing a risk in normal aquarium care.
