Canary Blenny – Blue Head (Meiacanthus smithii / Bluehead Fang Blenny)
A striking and peaceful marine fish, the Blue Head Canary Blenny is known for its vivid blue head, bright yellow body, and sleek streamlined shape. Active and hardy, it is a fantastic addition to reef and community aquariums, bringing both colour and movement to the mid-water column.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Mixes well with clownfish, gobies, wrasses, tangs, and other non-aggressive community species. Generally safe in groups of other peaceful fish, though best kept singly or as a pair unless in a large system.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and most invertebrates, making it ideal for reef aquariums.
Diet:
Carnivore/Omnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept high-quality marine pellets and flakes. Feed 1–2 times daily.

- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and suitable for beginner and experienced marine aquarists alike. Prefers stable water conditions and rockwork for shelter.
Top Tip:
Despite its peaceful nature, this fang blenny has a mild venomous bite used for defence. It poses no danger in normal aquarium care but deters predation in the wild. Provide plenty of hiding spaces to help it feel secure.
