Description

Burmese Pink Loach – Elegant, Peaceful, and Colorful Addition to Your Aquarium

Bring a splash of vibrant color and elegance to your aquarium with the Burmese Pink Loach (Pangio doriae), a rare and striking species known for its soft pink to peach-colored body and serene nature. Native to the streams and rivers of Southeast Asia, this peaceful bottom-dweller is the perfect choice for aquarists looking for a unique and low-maintenance fish that adds both beauty and intrigue to their tank.

The Burmese Pink Loach is a beautifully colored species, with a delicate pink to peach hue that becomes more pronounced as the fish matures. Its slender body and smooth, almost translucent skin give it a graceful and elegant appearance that stands out among other tank inhabitants. As a nocturnal species, this loach is most active at night, making it a fascinating species to observe during the evening hours.

Though peaceful and shy, Burmese Pink Loachs are social creatures and do best when kept in small groups of 3 or more. They are ideal for community tanks with other peaceful species, where they will spend most of their time exploring the substrate, scavenging for food, and seeking out hiding spots to feel secure.

Key Features:

  • Delicate Pink Hue: Elegant pale pink to peach-colored body that adds a gentle splash of color to your aquarium

  • Graceful & Slender: A long, smooth-bodied loach with a graceful appearance that blends well in aquariums with other peaceful species

  • Peaceful & Shy: A gentle species that gets along well with other non-aggressive fish

  • Nocturnal Behavior: Most active during the evening, offering an intriguing spectacle for those with late-night aquariums

  • Natural Scavenger: Helps keep the aquarium clean by foraging for leftover food, detritus, and algae along the substrate

Care Guidelines:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons for a small group (3 or more)

  • Water Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

  • pH Range: 6.5–7.5

  • Diet: Omnivorous – feeds on sinking pellets, live or frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp), and plant matter such as algae wafers

  • Lifespan: 5–7 years with proper care

Tip: Since Burmese Pink Loachs are naturally shy and nocturnal, they thrive in aquariums with plenty of hiding places like rocks, caves, and dense plants. They prefer a soft, sandy substrate where they can forage comfortably without harming their sensitive barbels. Having multiple loaches in the tank will also help them feel secure and bring out their natural behavior.

The Burmese Pink Loach is an elegant and peaceful species that brings both beauty and serenity to your aquarium. Its striking color, nocturnal nature, and natural scavenging abilities make it an ideal choice for any freshwater tank that values calm, low-maintenance fish.
