Bumble Bee Snail (Engina spp.)
A small and striking marine invertebrate, the Bumble Bee Snail is easily recognised by its bold black and yellow striped shell. Known for its active scavenging behaviour, it is a great addition to reef aquariums, helping to clean up leftover food and organic waste.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Safe with most community fish including clownfish, gobies, and blennies. Can be kept alongside other clean-up crew members without issue.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Generally harmless to corals, but may prey on small worms or microfauna within the substrate. Suitable for most reef systems.
Diet:
Carnivore/Scavenger – feeds on leftover food, detritus, and small organisms in the substrate. May require supplemental feeding with small meaty foods in very clean tanks.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 40L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy and well-suited for beginner to advanced aquarists. Thrives in established aquariums.
Top Tip:
Add in small groups for best results. Provide a varied clean-up crew and occasional feeding to ensure they remain active and well-nourished, especially in low-nutrient systems.
