Key Features & Care Guidelines:
-
Distinctive Coloration: Sleek silver body with black markings along the sides and bright red or orange fins, adding a vibrant contrast in your aquarium.
-
Behavior: Active, peaceful schooling fish; should be kept in groups of 6 or more to encourage natural schooling behavior and prevent stress. Can be slightly more boisterous than other tetras.
-
Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons recommended for a school, but larger tanks allow for more space and a more dynamic display.
-
Water Parameters: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5, and temperatures from 72°F to 80°F (22°C to 27°C).
-
Diet: Omnivorous; accepts a variety of foods including flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.
-
Tank Setup: Thrives in tanks with plenty of swimming space and gentle water flow. Plants and hiding spots are recommended, though they also appreciate open swimming areas.
-
Experience Level: Hardy and adaptable, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
