Description
Blue Spot Pufferfish (Arothron caeruleopunctatus / Blue-Spotted Puffer)
A captivating and visually striking marine species, the Blue Spot Pufferfish is instantly recognisable by its dark body adorned with bright blue spots. Its curious personality and unique appearance make it a fascinating centerpiece for larger aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with robust tankmates such as large tangs, wrasse, and angelfish. Avoid small, slow-moving, or delicate species, as they may be nipped or stressed. Can become territorial if space is limited.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. May nip at corals, invertebrates, and ornamental invertebrates. Recommended for fish-only or fish-plus-live-rock setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on a varied diet of meaty foods including shrimp, mussels, clams, squid, and high-quality marine pellets. Includes hard-shelled foods to help control continuously growing teeth. Feed 2–3 times per week in moderation.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400–500L
Care Level:
Advanced – requires a mature aquarium with stable water parameters. Sensitive to water quality fluctuations and requires monitoring of diet and tooth growth.
Top Tip:
Provide open swimming areas along with hiding spots. Include hard-shelled foods like snails or crustaceans to naturally manage tooth length. Introduce into a well-established tank to reduce stress and ensure long-term health.
