Description
Naso Blue Spot Tang (Naso unicornis variant / Naso sp.)
A striking and active marine species, the Naso Blue Spot Tang is prized for its streamlined body, elegant swimming style, and distinctive blue spot markings on the tail region. A larger tang species, it makes a beautiful centerpiece for spacious reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best housed with other robust fish such as tangs, angelfish, and large wrasse. Avoid small, timid, or slow-moving fish that may be stressed or harassed. Territorial behaviour can occur, particularly in confined tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Does not harm corals or invertebrates, though it may graze on filamentous algae. Suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Herbivore – primarily grazes on algae. Offer a varied diet of marine algae, spirulina-based flakes or pellets, and occasional frozen or dried vegetable matter. Multiple feedings per day maintain bright coloration and healthy growth.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 600L
Care Level:
Advanced – requires a large, well-established aquarium with stable water parameters and plenty of swimming space. Sensitive to poor water quality.
Top Tip:
Provide ample live rock for grazing and open swimming areas. Introduce into a mature tank to reduce territorial stress and encourage natural behaviour.
