A stunning and iconic marine invertebrate, the Blue Finger Starfish is admired for its vivid blue coloration and smooth, elongated arms. It is a peaceful species that adds a striking natural beauty to reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Suitable with most reef-safe fish such as clownfish, tangs, wrasses, gobies, and shrimp. Should not be housed with aggressive invertebrate predators.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates. Requires a mature, stable reef system with a healthy microfauna population.
Diet:
Detritivore – feeds on biofilm, detritus, and microalgae found on live rock and sand. May require supplemental feeding in newer or very clean tanks with sinking foods or specialized invertebrate foods.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 200L
Care Level:
Advanced – sensitive to poor water quality and sudden changes. Requires a mature aquarium with stable conditions and established natural food sources.
Top Tip:
Only introduce into well-established systems with plenty of live rock. Avoid handling out of water, as starfish are extremely sensitive to air exposure and parameter swings.
