Description
Blue Damselfish (Chrysiptera cyanea / Blue Devil Damselfish)
The Blue Damselfish is a brilliantly coloured and extremely hardy marine fish, instantly recognisable by its intense electric-blue colouration. Small, active, and full of personality, it is a popular choice for marine aquariums and provides a striking splash of colour amongst live rock.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Generally suitable with clownfish, wrasses, dwarf angelfish, tangs, and other confident marine species. Despite its small size, it can become territorial, particularly towards other damsels and similarly sized peaceful fish.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and most ornamental invertebrates, making it suitable for mixed reef aquariums.
Diet:
Omnivore – readily accepts marine flakes, pellets, mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and algae-based foods. Feed 1–2 times daily with a varied diet.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy – an exceptionally hardy and adaptable species, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of rockwork with caves and defined territories. If keeping multiple damsels, a larger aquarium with numerous hiding places can help spread aggression and reduce territorial disputes.
