The Apistogramma cacatuoides "Double Red", commonly known as the Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid, is a dazzling variant of one of the most popular Apistogramma species. This variety is named for its vivid red coloration, especially on the extended dorsal and caudal fins of the males, giving them a flamboyant, cockatoo-like appearance. Native to the slow-moving streams of the Amazon Basin, this dwarf cichlid is both stunning and relatively easy to care for.
The Double Red variant is known for its bold coloration, small size, and peaceful temperament, making it a great choice for planted aquariums and peaceful community tanks. Males are the showpieces, while females are more modest in appearance, typically yellow with dark markings—especially striking when breeding.
