Description

Amano Shrimp – The Ultimate Algae-Eating Powerhouse for Your Aquarium

Bring a natural, efficient cleaning crew to your aquarium with the iconic Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata), widely regarded as one of the best algae-eating shrimp species for freshwater tanks. Known for their hardiness, high work ethic, and incredible ability to keep your tank spotless, Amano Shrimp are a must-have for aquarists looking for a natural, sustainable way to control algae growth.

Named after the famous aquascaper Takashi Amano, these shrimp are renowned for their remarkable algae-eating abilities, particularly in controlling green spot algae, hair algae, and even biofilm. Their translucent bodies, often with a slightly greenish tint, allow them to blend seamlessly into the environment, while their active, inquisitive nature adds an exciting dynamic to your aquarium.

Amano Shrimp are peaceful and sociable creatures, ideal for community tanks with non-aggressive species. Their efficient cleaning habits, combined with their low-maintenance care needs, make them suitable for both beginners and experienced hobbyists alike.

Key Features:

  • Algae Control Experts: Highly effective at consuming algae, biofilm, and detritus, keeping your aquarium cleaner and healthier without the need for chemicals

  • Hardy & Resilient: Adaptable to a wide range of water conditions, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists

  • Peaceful & Sociable: Amano Shrimp thrive in groups, are non-aggressive, and get along well with other peaceful species, making them perfect for community tanks

  • Low-Maintenance: Easy to care for and require minimal attention, aside from maintaining good water quality and providing a balanced diet

  • Aquascaping-Friendly: Their transparent bodies and active nature make them a fantastic addition to planted tanks and aquascapes, adding both beauty and functionality

Care Guidelines:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons

  • Water Temperature: 65–80°F (18–27°C)

  • pH Range: 6.0–8.0

  • Diet: Omnivorous – feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and leftovers from other tankmates. Supplement their diet with algae wafers, shrimp pellets, and blanched vegetables

  • Lifespan: 2–3 years with proper care

Tip: Amano Shrimp prefer a well-established tank with plenty of algae and biofilm to graze on. They are excellent companions for planted aquariums, as they help keep the plants healthy by preventing excessive algae growth. They will also benefit from a tank with plenty of hiding spots, such as rocks, plants, or driftwood. Regular water changes and a stable filtration system are essential to their well-being, as they are sensitive to poor water quality.

Add Amano Shrimp to your aquarium for a natural, effective, and beautiful way to control algae. These diligent little workers will make a significant difference in the cleanliness of your tank while enhancing its overall aesthetic.
