Albino Softshell Turtle
The Albino Softshell Turtle is a rare and eye-catching aquatic reptile, admired for its pale golden-white colouring, soft flexible shell, and distinctive long snorkel-like nose. With its unusual appearance and active swimming behaviour, this turtle makes a truly unique centrepiece for experienced keepers with the space and commitment needed for proper long-term care.
Habitat
Albino Softshell Turtles require a large aquatic setup with clean, warm water and plenty of open swimming space.
- Enclosure: Large aquarium, indoor pond, or outdoor pond setup depending on size
- Water Temperature: 24–28°C
- Basking: Access to a dry basking platform is recommended
- Lighting: UVB lighting is essential for indoor enclosures
- Humidity: Naturally maintained through the aquatic environment
- Decor: Open swimming space, smooth décor, sandy resting areas, and secure basking platforms
Feeding
These turtles are primarily carnivorous and have a strong feeding response.
- Diet: Turtle pellets, fish, shrimp, worms, insects, snails, crustaceans, and occasional aquatic vegetation

- Juveniles: Daily
- Adults: 3–4 times per week
- Clean water must be maintained due to messy feeding habits
General Care
Softshell turtles are active and sensitive reptiles that require stable water quality and gentle handling.
- Temperament: Fast, alert, and can be defensive when stressed
- Handling: Minimal handling recommended due to delicate skin and risk of bites or scratches
- Lifespan: 20–30+ years with proper care
- Maintenance: Strong filtration, regular water changes, and close monitoring of shell and skin health are essential
