Description
Albino Axolotls – The Pale Icons of the Aquatic World
Discover the striking beauty of Albino Axolotls, instantly recognisable for their pale white to soft pink bodies and vivid rosy-red external gills. These enchanting amphibians are a true aquatic marvel, remaining permanently in their juvenile form thanks to a fascinating trait known as neoteny.
Unlike darker wild-type axolotls, Albino Axolotls lack melanin, giving them their iconic light coloration and translucent appearance. Their expressive faces, gentle movements, and flowing gills make them an eye-catching and calming addition to any freshwater setup.
Key Features:
Iconic Albino Colouration: White to pale pink body with vibrant red or pink feathery gills
Captive-Bred & Hardy: Responsibly bred, well-established in the hobby
Low-Maintenance Amphibians: Straightforward care requirements in cool freshwater aquariums
Extraordinary Biology: Capable of regenerating limbs, retaining juvenile features, and breathing through external gills
Care Guidelines:
Tank Size: 20 gallons minimum per adult
Water Temperature: 60–68°F (16–20°C) — no heater required
Diet: Carnivorous – earthworms, bloodworms, axolotl pellets
Substrate: Bare bottom or fine sand only (never gravel)
Lifespan: 10–15 years with proper care
Maximum Size: 30cm+
Perfect for both first-time keepers and experienced amphibian enthusiasts, Albino Axolotls are gentle, fascinating, and undeniably unique. More than just pets, they are living curiosities that bring a touch of aquatic magic to any home.
