Description
Eight Line Flasher Dwarf Parrot (Paracheilinus octotaenia / Eightline Flasher Wrasse)
The Eight Line Flasher Dwarf Parrot is a spectacular and highly colourful marine wrasse, recognised for its vibrant reddish-orange body, distinctive horizontal stripes and beautifully elongated fins. Males are particularly impressive when displaying, intensifying their colouration and spreading their fins in a dramatic flashing display. An active and eye-catching species, it makes a fantastic addition to a peaceful, established reef aquarium.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally compatible with clownfish, gobies, blennies, tangs, dwarf angelfish and other peaceful marine species. Males may display territorial behaviour towards similar flasher wrasses, particularly other males. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may intimidate this relatively delicate species.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Safe with corals, clams and ornamental invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for established reef aquariums.
Diet:
Carnivore – naturally feeds on small planktonic crustaceans in the water column. Offer a varied diet including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped marine seafood and quality marine pellets. Feed 2–3 smaller meals daily to support its active metabolism.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 24–27°C
-
Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Minimum Tank Size: 200L
Care Level:
Moderate – generally hardy once acclimated but requires stable water conditions, peaceful tankmates, plenty of swimming space and regular feeding.
Top Tip:
Male Eight Line Flasher Wrasses produce their most spectacular colours during courtship and territorial displays. Keeping them in a peaceful aquarium with plenty of open swimming space encourages natural behaviour. A secure, tightly fitting lid is essential, as flasher wrasses are particularly accomplished jumpers.
