Description
Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus)
A striking and elegant marine species, the Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish is instantly recognisable by its bright yellow body, contrasting black face mask, and long, slender snout. Its graceful swimming and unique appearance make it a standout feature in larger marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive or moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasses, clownfish, and angelfish. Generally mixes well in community setups but should be avoided with overly aggressive tankmates.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. May nip at small invertebrates such as feather dusters, tube worms, and tiny crustaceans. Usually safe with corals but should be monitored in reef systems.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. May also pick at small invertebrates in the rockwork. Feed 2–3 times daily to maintain health and condition.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of live rock for natural foraging.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of live rock to encourage natural feeding behaviour. Offer a varied diet and introduce into a peaceful tank to reduce stress and ensure successful acclimation.
