Description
Sexy Shrimp (Thor amboinensis)
A tiny, eye-catching, and highly entertaining marine invertebrate, the Sexy Shrimp is famous for its vibrant orange body with white spots and its unique “dancing” tail-wagging behaviour. Best kept in groups, they add constant movement and personality to reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other small, non-aggressive species such as gobies, blennies, and clownfish. Avoid large or predatory fish that may see them as food. Thrive when kept in groups of 3 or more.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates. Often associates with anemones and certain corals, adding natural behaviour to reef setups.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Will also scavenge leftover food in the aquarium. Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 40L
Care Level:
Easy to moderate – hardy if acclimated properly, but requires stable water parameters and a peaceful tank environment.
Top Tip:
Keep in small groups to encourage natural “dancing” behaviour. Provide rockwork, corals, or anemones for hosting and shelter, and avoid housing with fish that may prey on small shrimp.
