Saffron Goby – West Indian Ocean (Gobiodon citrinus / Citrine Goby)
A tiny, vibrant, and peaceful marine species, the Saffron Goby (Gobiodon citrinus) is instantly recognisable by its bright yellow-orange body and charming behaviour. Ideal for reef aquariums, it adds colour and personality while remaining fully reef-safe.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive species such as clownfish, blennies, and small gobies. Avoid large, aggressive, or overly boisterous fish that may stress or outcompete it. Can be territorial with other Saffron Gobies in confined spaces.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates. Often associates with branching corals, providing natural shelter and adding a splash of colour to the reef.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as copepods, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Also accepts high-quality marine flakes or pellets. Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily.

- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 60L
Care Level:
Easy to moderate – hardy if introduced into a mature reef tank with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding spaces among corals.
Top Tip:
Place near branching corals or live rock to allow natural hiding and shelter behaviour. Multiple small feedings encourage natural activity and maintain bright coloration.
