Description
Pink Spot Goby (Amblygobius spp. / Pink-Spotted Goby)
A peaceful and useful marine fish, the Pink Spot Goby is recognised by its subtle body coloration accented with soft pink spotting. It is an excellent sand-sifting species, helping to keep substrates clean and well-oxygenated in marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive species such as clownfish, blennies, wrasses, and small tangs. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may outcompete or harass it.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for reef systems. Its sand-sifting behaviour helps maintain a healthy substrate.
Diet:
Omnivore/Detritivore – feeds by sifting sand for microfauna, detritus, and organic matter. Will also accept finely prepared frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp, as well as marine pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily if needed.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but requires a mature aquarium with a suitable sandy substrate for natural feeding behaviour.
Top Tip:
Provide a fine sand bed to allow natural sifting behaviour. Ensure regular feeding in addition to natural foraging, especially in newer or very clean systems.
