Description
Orange Finger Starfish (Fromia spp. / Orange Finger Starfish)
A vibrant and visually striking marine invertebrate, the Orange Finger Starfish is easily recognised by its bright orange coloration and elongated, finger-like arms. It is a fascinating species for observing movement and natural behaviours on the aquarium substrate.
Compatibility:
Peaceful with most fish species. May prey on small invertebrates like tiny snails, so avoid housing with delicate or vulnerable tankmates.
Reef Compatibility:
Mostly reef-safe. Harmless to corals but may feed on small invertebrates, so caution is advised with sensitive species.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on detritus, leftover meaty foods, and small invertebrates. Supplement with finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, or specialized starfish foods if natural feeding is limited.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 150L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but requires stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium with plenty of substrate for movement and foraging.
Top Tip:
Provide a sandy or fine gravel substrate to allow natural movement and feeding behaviour. Regular feeding with meaty foods enhances coloration and vitality.
