Lunula Butterflyfish (Chaetodon lunula / Raccoon Butterflyfish)
A bold and recognisable marine species, the Lunula Butterflyfish is famous for its distinctive black “mask” across the eyes, giving it the common name Raccoon Butterflyfish. Its striking yellow body and active behaviour make it a standout addition to larger marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasses, angelfish, and clownfish. May become territorial toward similar butterflyfish species in smaller systems.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. Known to nip at soft corals, LPS corals, zoanthids, feather dusters, and other sessile invertebrates. Best suited for fish-only marine aquariums.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on a varied diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, marine algae, and quality marine flakes or pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily for best health and coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 300L
Care Level:
Moderate – generally hardy once acclimated but requires stable water conditions, excellent filtration, and plenty of swimming space.
Top Tip:
Provide ample rockwork and open swimming areas. Feeding a varied diet and selecting a specimen already eating prepared foods greatly improves long-term success.

Livestock will normally be bagged when you arrive, helping to minimise the amount of time animals spend packaged. If you’d prefer your livestock to be ready beforehand, simply contact us in advance.

Distances are measured “as the crow flies” rather than by road.
Once your order has been placed, we’ll contact you to arrange a suitable delivery date and time. We often combine nearby orders into efficient delivery runs, so local delivery may take a little longer during busy periods.

Orders placed before 12 noon may be dispatched the same day on our current dispatch days.
Express Pallet
75–500kg • Usually 1–3 working days
Designed for larger and heavier orders that cannot be sent using our standard parcel service.
