Description
Half Black Angelfish (Centropyge vrolikii / Half-Black Dwarf Angel)
A compact and attractive marine angelfish, the Half Black Angel is known for its striking contrast between the lighter front half of its body and the dark black rear section. Its hardy nature and active personality make it a popular choice for reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with peaceful to moderately robust species such as clownfish, gobies, wrasses, and tangs. Can become territorial toward other dwarf angelfish, especially in smaller aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. May occasionally nip at soft corals, LPS corals, and clam mantles. Behaviour varies between individuals, so monitoring in reef systems is recommended.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on marine algae, spirulina-based foods, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and sponge-based angelfish preparations. Feed 2–3 times daily for optimal health and coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 150L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – hardy once acclimated and well suited to mature aquariums with stable water conditions and plenty of live rock for grazing.
Top Tip:
Provide ample rockwork for hiding and natural grazing. A varied diet rich in algae and sponge material helps maintain vibrant coloration and reduce coral nipping tendencies.
