Blue Dot Jawfish (Opistognathus rosenblatti)
A fascinating and unique marine species, the Blue Dot Jawfish is recognised for its sandy-coloured body, small blue spots, and distinctive burrowing behaviour. Known for its shy but intriguing personality, it is a favourite for sand-bed aquariums and reef tanks with ample substrate.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive fish such as gobies, blennies, and small wrasses. Avoid large or aggressive species that may prey on or stress it.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Offer 1–2 times daily in small portions to encourage natural hunting behaviour.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires a well-established aquarium with soft sand substrate for burrowing and stable water conditions.
Top Tip:
Provide at least 10–15cm of sand substrate and small caves or rockwork for burrow construction. They thrive when given space to dig and retreat, so avoid aggressive tankmates that may disturb their territory.
