Bicolour Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor / Bicolour Blenny)
A small and highly popular marine fish, the Bicolour Blenny is recognised by its striking two-tone body coloration, typically featuring a darker front half and vibrant orange rear. Full of personality and constantly active around rockwork, it is a fantastic addition to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally mixes well with clownfish, gobies, wrasses, and tangs. Can become territorial toward similar blennies or fish with a comparable body shape, especially in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Usually safe with corals and invertebrates, though occasionally may nip at clam mantles or fleshy corals if underfed.
Diet:
Herbivore/Omnivore – primarily feeds on algae and biofilm. Supplement with algae sheets, spirulina flakes or pellets, and occasional meaty foods such as mysis shrimp. Feed daily alongside natural grazing opportunities.

- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 60–80L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. Thrives in mature aquariums with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter.
Top Tip:
Provide ample rockwork with crevices for hiding and grazing. A varied diet rich in algae helps maintain colouration and reduces the likelihood of coral nipping.
