Description
White Malu Anemone (Heteractis malu / White Malu Anemone)
A beautiful and elegant marine anemone, the White Malu Anemone is prized for its delicate appearance, short tentacles, and striking pale white coloration. It makes an attractive focal point in mature reef aquariums and can provide a natural host for certain clownfish species.
Compatibility:
Generally peaceful. Compatible with most reef fish, though care should be taken with slow-moving species that may come into contact with its stinging tentacles. Can host compatible clownfish species.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Safe with corals when given adequate space, but its sting can damage nearby corals if they come into contact. Placement should allow room for expansion and potential movement.
Diet:
Carnivore – benefits from regular feeding of mysis shrimp, krill, chopped shrimp, lancefish, and other meaty marine foods. While it receives energy from its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae, supplemental feeding is recommended.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 150L
Lighting Requirements:
Moderate to High Lighting
Care Level:
Moderate to Advanced – requires a mature, stable reef aquarium with strong lighting, good water quality, and low nitrate levels. Not recommended for newly established systems.
Top Tip:
Provide a sandy substrate area, as Malu Anemones prefer to bury their foot beneath the sand while attaching to rock beneath. Stable water parameters and appropriate lighting are key to long-term success and vibrant health.
