Description
Radiata Lionfish (Pterois radiata / Clearfin Lionfish)
A striking and dramatic marine species, the Radiata Lionfish is instantly recognisable by its elongated, venomous fins and bold striped pattern. Known for its predatory behaviour and striking display, it is best suited for experienced aquarists and larger community or species-specific tanks.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive to aggressive. Best kept with similarly sized, robust fish. Avoid small or slow-moving species, as they may be preyed upon. Can be territorial in confined spaces.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. Predatory species; will feed on smaller fish and invertebrates. Suitable for tanks with large, non-prey species or species-specific setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on live or frozen meaty foods such as small fish, shrimp, and crustaceans. Can adapt to frozen mysis, silversides, or other meaty preparations. Feed every 1–2 days depending on size.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400L
Care Level:
Advanced – requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions, plenty of hiding spots, and secure lid to prevent escape.
Top Tip:
Provide rock caves or ledges for hiding and ambush behaviour. Always handle with caution, as the fins are venomous. Regularly feed high-quality meaty foods to maintain health and coloration.
