Lemon Damsel (Pomacentrus moluccensis / Lemon Damselfish)
A bright and cheerful marine species, the Lemon Damsel is known for its vibrant yellow body and active swimming behaviour. Hardy and full of personality, it is a popular choice for reef and community aquariums, especially for aquarists looking to add bold colour and movement.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other peaceful to moderately robust species such as clownfish, gobies, wrasses, and tangs. Can become territorial, especially in smaller tanks or as it matures. Avoid housing with very timid fish.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates, making it ideal for reef setups.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on a varied diet including marine flakes, pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 1–2 times daily to maintain health and vibrant colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy – very hardy and adaptable, making it suitable for beginners and experienced marine aquarists alike.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of rockwork and hiding spaces to reduce territorial aggression. Keeping them with confident tankmates helps create a balanced and peaceful community aquarium.
