Feather Duster Worm – Red & White (Sabellastarte spp.)
A stunning and elegant marine invertebrate, the Red & White Feather Duster Worm is prized for its vibrant, fan-like crown featuring bold red and white banding. This delicate “feather” structure extends from a protective tube, adding movement, colour, and natural filtration to reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Safe with most non-aggressive fish such as clownfish, gobies, and blennies. Avoid housing with predatory species like wrasses, triggers, and puffers that may nip at or consume it.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely harmless to corals and other invertebrates, making it ideal for reef setups.
Diet:
Filter feeder – consumes microscopic plankton and suspended particles in the water. Supplement with phytoplankton or specialised filter-feeder foods 2–3 times per week, especially in ultra-clean systems.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 60L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires stable water conditions and consistent feeding. Sensitive to sudden parameter changes and poor water quality.
Top Tip:
Place in an area with gentle to moderate flow to allow effective filter feeding. Avoid direct strong currents and minimise handling, as stress can cause the worm to shed its crown.
