Darwin Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris / Black Ocellaris Clownfish)
The Darwin Clownfish is a stunning naturally occurring black form of the familiar Ocellaris Clownfish, originating from the waters around Darwin in northern Australia. Adults develop a deep black body contrasted by three crisp white bands, often retaining warm orange colouration around the face and fins. Hardy, attractive and full of personality, they make an excellent addition to marine and reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally compatible with gobies, blennies, wrasses, tangs, dwarf angelfish and other peaceful marine species. Established pairs may become territorial around their chosen host or spawning site.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Safe with corals and ornamental invertebrates. They may associate with a suitable host anemone, but an anemone is not required for their health or wellbeing in captivity.
Diet:
Omnivore – readily accepts quality marine flakes and pellets, mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood and algae-containing foods. Feed 1–2 times daily with a varied diet.

- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L (100L+ recommended for a pair)
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable and generally an enthusiastic feeder, making the Darwin Clownfish suitable for both newer and experienced marine aquarists.
Top Tip:
Young Darwin Clownfish may show considerably more orange or brown colouration than fully mature specimens. Their characteristic deep black colour develops and intensifies with age, so don't be concerned if juveniles have not yet achieved the dramatic black-and-white appearance of mature adults.
