Description
Black & White Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris / Darwin Ocellaris Clownfish)
A striking and elegant marine species, the Black & White Clownfish is loved for its bold black body contrasted by crisp white bands. This designer form of the Ocellaris Clownfish is both hardy and peaceful, making it a fantastic choice for reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other peaceful species such as gobies, blennies, wrasses, and small tangs. Can become territorial when paired or hosting an anemone. Avoid mixing with aggressive clownfish species in smaller aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and most invertebrates. May host in anemones, though this is not necessary for successful captive care.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on a varied diet including marine pellets, flakes, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 1–2 times daily for best health and colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and ideal for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. Tank-bred specimens are especially resilient and easy to settle.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock and secure hiding places to reduce stress. When keeping a pair, allow natural pairing and avoid introducing two established females together to prevent aggression.
