Description
Bicolour Chromis (Chromis margaritifer / Bicolour Chromis)
The Bicolour Chromis is a peaceful and attractive reef fish, admired for its striking two-tone colouration with a darker front half blending into a pale to silvery rear. Active and constantly swimming in the open water, it adds movement and natural shoaling behaviour to marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Excellent with clownfish, gobies, blennies, wrasses, anthias, cardinalfish, tangs, and other reef-safe community fish. Can be kept singly, but displays its most natural behaviour when maintained in small groups in larger aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and ornamental invertebrates, making it an ideal choice for mixed reef aquariums.
Diet:
Omnivore/Planktivore – feeds on zooplankton in the wild. Offer a varied diet of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine flakes, pellets, and frozen marine foods. Feed 1–2 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 100L (200L+ recommended for groups)
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, active, and well suited to both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. Thrives in stable reef systems with good water movement and open swimming space.
Top Tip:
For the best display, keep a small group in a spacious aquarium with plenty of open water. Frequent small feedings and strong water movement help replicate their natural reef environment and encourage active shoaling behaviour.
