Description
Wreckfish – West Indian Ocean (Pseudanthias squamipinnis / Lyretail Anthias)
A colourful and active marine species, the Wreckfish (Lyretail Anthias) is known for its vibrant orange body, graceful swimming, and schooling behaviour. Perfect for large community and reef aquariums, it adds movement, colour, and dynamic energy to the tank.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept in groups of 5 or more to encourage natural schooling behaviour. Compatible with other peaceful or moderately active reef fish such as gobies, blennies, tangs, and clownfish. Avoid very aggressive species that may outcompete them for food.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Also accepts high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Feed 2–3 times daily in small portions to mimic natural feeding patterns.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Moderate – benefits from a well-established aquarium with stable water parameters and plenty of swimming space. Schools thrive in larger tanks with live rock for shelter.
Top Tip:
Keep in groups to reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour. Provide open swimming areas and scattered crevices in live rock to allow retreat and perching. Frequent small feedings support vibrant colour and activity.
